tres leches cake

Having eaten this cake in a restaurant my sister wanted to recreate it. Made with three kinds of milk as well as cream, it’s deliciously milky and has the consistency of a good trifle. Desserts made with milk are popular in all Hispanic countries and there are many versions of this cake. We used a recipe from Pati’s Mexican Table for this one.

  1. How do you make a chocolate tres leche cake. Imade your tres leche cake for my family and we loved it , so did my friends.

    • I haven’t tried a chocolate version but there are a few online. Try adding half a cup of cocoa powder to the cake mix and 140g (5 oz) unsweetened chocolate to the sauce mix. You could also add make a chocolate ganache for the top. Let me know if you try it!

  2. Yum! I loved this cake when I ate it in Mexico. I’ve never seen it with icing before! It is a traditional Mexican recipe, or an american interpretation?

    • I had never eaten this cake before so I’m not sure how traditional it is, but Pati is Mexican and apparently has a TV show. The ‘icing’ is just sweetened cream!
